Beach volleyball pre-games training

The first 4 days of my Olympic physio experience was to cover the training and athlete familiarisation sessions at Horse Guards Parade!

My walk to work…just checking the time!

The first few days are taken up stocking medical rooms and getting to know the team.  The weather was amazing and the beach volleyball courts looked more like they were in the Caribean than London!

What time is it?!

Dr David Zideman took us through the essentials of court evacuation on the beach including adapting the scoop and basket technique to allow for the sandy conditions! We were slightly distracted by the dancers practicing on the next court and showering each other with a hosepipe!

Beach dancers!

Bits of soft tissue work, K-taping and some basic first aid were the main physio requirements during training. Due to the unprecedented British weather conditions I ended up dealing with some “games critical” work force members with heat stroke, all were fine once re-hydrated and cooled down!

Centre court training!

Sat court side to watch some of the athletes familiarize themselves with centre court and got a sense of what it will feel like filled with spectators…awesome!

wish I had tickets!

I’m back again for Games time on wednesday 1st and cannot wait!
